How to prepare a monthly management report with NetSuite

A monthly management report should do more than collect exports. It should explain what happened, why it happened and what leadership needs to decide. If you use NetSuite, define that report before choosing charts or tools.

1. Define the reporting scope

Agree the period, entities and cut-off date. Distinguish posted transactions from pending adjustments and document limitations. A provisional report can be useful, but should not be presented as final.

2. Structure the P&L for management

Group accounts around your business model: revenue, direct costs, margin and overheads. Compare the month, year to date and budget where available. Keep definitions consistent and explain changes in accounting or management criteria.

3. Separate earnings from cash

Profit and liquidity are not the same. Review collections, payments, debt and working capital movements. Before interpreting a cash decline, check whether it reflects growing receivables, investment or financing repayments.

4. Reconcile before explaining

Compare totals with source records. Document account mappings and the dimensions used. If you analyse departments or subsidiaries, check that classifications are complete enough: missing segment data does not mean zero activity.

5. Finish with actions

Select material variances, identify causes and assign an owner and review date. A report becomes valuable when it leads to decisions rather than accumulating indicators.

A reporting layer connected to NetSuite

Quickbidata is AI-powered financial reporting software for companies with an ERP, specialising in NetSuite and Holded. It connects with read-only access and refreshes data every two hours or on demand. The management model is configured during implementation; it does not replace accounting review or your team’s decisions.
